Sonoma Jet Center Subsidizes SAF for Green Fuel Day Celebration

Sonoma Jet Center, the premier fixed base operator (FBO) at Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport (KSTS), is set to host a Green Fuel Day Celebration on April 18th, 2024.

Sonoma Aviation, the parent company of Sonoma Jet Center, is promoting cleaner aviation operations and advancing the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel to reduce aviation’s carbon footprint.  In a pioneering move toward a greener future for all, the FBO is partnering with Avfuel, its trusted fuel supply partner, to pump sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) throughout the day on April 18that a cost equivalent to traditional jet fuel.

“We are committed to making aviation more sustainable and preserving our environment,” said Josh Hochberg, President of Sonoma Aviation.  “Sustainable aviation fuel adoption is one big step forward to ensure future generations can enjoy our same passion for aviation and flying. We are excited to support it.”

Sonoma Aviation invites aviators and industry and community leaders to join the Green Fuel Day Celebration and lead the way for a sustainable future together.  Those who attend will have a unique opportunity at the airport to witness firsthand business aviation’s efforts to attain industry goals of net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The event also serves as a launching point for Sonoma Aviation’s Green Week, which will feature team and operational sustainability initiatives at both of Sonoma Aviation’s FBOs—Sonoma Jet Center and Carlsbad Jet Center (KCRQ). Green Week initiatives will include fun ways the local teams and customers can help reduce their carbon footprint such as zero waste meals, native plantings, green/shared transportation, and more!

Since 2021, Sonoma Jet Center has offered aviators the ability to fuel with SAF from Avfuel. SAF is derived from 100% renewable materials with the potential to slash greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% when used in its concentrated form.* Sonoma Jet Center proudly offers SAF sourced from California with one of the highest blend-ratios available in the industry, resulting in a 19 metric ton reduction in carbon emissions per truckload.

Avfuel is the leading provider of SAF to business aviation operations, including 13 U.S. FBOs, major aircraft manufacturers and corporate flight departments directly.

“Avfuel is proud to partner with fellow leaders in sustainability like Sonoma Aviation,” said David Mittleman, Avfuel’s senior sales manager of the western US. “This Green Day Fuel Celebration provides a great opportunity to not only further educate the business aviation community, but the community at large on what SAF is and how it’s helping our industry achieve real, measurable sustainability goals.”

*When used in its neat (unblended) form over the fuel’s life cycle and calculated with established life cycle assessment (LCA) methodologies, such as the CORSIA methodology.
